2.4 The rocky road

Together we have been on a journey along a rocky road,
Challenges in abundance as we each carried a heavy load.
We have helped to test and develop each other,
At all times have overwhelming love for one another.
Resisting times to hurt each other when we taunt and goad.

Something that ought to have been nothing has escalated,
To proportions that are unfortunate due to fantasies overrated.
Now we have to be brutal and blunt with how we feel,
We need to put it all on the table as this is very much real.
This is not the life we promised ourselves or to each other stated.

As much as neither of us want to be so bold and to do this,
Always focused on a notion of eternal and everlasting bliss.
If we remain on this journey, I am fearful it will lead to disaster,
We are constantly baiting one another with tensions we cannot master.
There is nothing more I want than to heal this with a tender kiss.

How we can proceed on a path together I know not,
My love for you will persist and never be forgot.
Could you honestly state that you see a life together?
Believing we can live and create a happily ever after.
Or do we cut our losses and stop before our love dies and  eventually rot?
