2.46 From darkness into light
Emptiness and humiliation have haunted and pursued me through my life, left me trapped in the dark,
The brutal emotional trauma has ripped me open wide and have left their scars and their mark.
Tongues so sharp tear through my heart, leaving it open and exposed for all to stare and see,
Left hiding in the shadows, afraid to step into the light, afraid to be out, afraid to be me.
Broken, ruined and shattered I bury and shelter myself, completely drained of my once bright spark.
This prison that has been created for me and trapping me for what seems like an eternity is strong,
It is a struggle to find the strength to speak to anyone or to act for my own, this is truly wrong.
The walls surrounding me are so thick and durable, yet they are unseen to the naked eye,
Should I fail to overcome what has left me so devastated then in here I will be sure to rot and die.
I need to break free from the shackles and chains that keep me here. I want to once again sing my song.
As you offer to me a candle, gently illuminating my way, I open my eyes and once again can see a way,
To leave this dungeon that I am stuck in is a fearful prospect, the unknown makes me want to stay.
Will the sharp tongues slice into me as the fists follow and fly once again to beat and batter me?
Never have I wished anyone harm, I have love and accepted all, yet myself I am not allowed to be.
Happiness and joy are feelings that have been denied. But I will stand tall, happy, proud and gay.
Should they try and break and grind me into nothing more than damaged fragments in the dust,
I will stand up and break free from these impossible chains, I will stand up and I will do what I must.
No one holds the right to break anyone down, I will march and find my voice in your light,
Together and different we rise. United we stand with love and peace that we shall use to fuel our fight.
Finding strength to sing our songs of respect, we shall defeat and crush their spiteful disgust.
Your hand in mine and mine in yours, we share the candle you have brought to me in this place,
The smallest and faintest of glows provides warmth and illumination for people of all genders and race.
This tiny flame is the heart of our enduring and eternal revolution of love and acceptance for all,
Flicker this flame may, but never to extinguish, for our hearts combined feed it and can never fall.
You have saved me and my life, together we step forward and rescue others with smiles upon our faces.
Vicious words and actions will still come our way and we won't be free from the hurt and the pain,
Yet if we do not stand and march, we will become strangers to each other, trapped in the dark and rain.
We are brave and we shall be who we are born to be, free with no more fear and no longer scared,
Stare at us now and we fight you with peace, no matter what you do, we stand with love shared.
No longer shall I be ashamed of my scars, and never shall we hide and be trapped. We are free once again.
